Course 1 · Lesson 5 of 5

Your first useful action

Run one full cycle on a real task by reviewing the next move, deciding, acting or skipping deliberately, and recording the result.

Lesson 5 of 5 in Start Here: How Signal & Science Works
The Command Center advisor box, headed YOUR MARKETING ADVISOR.
The advisor box on the Command Center, where you ask a question, share an idea, or add files.

Why this matters

Understanding the loop pays off only once you run it. The weekly habit is small: review the next move, make a decision, act or deliberately skip, and record the result. One honest cycle teaches more than ten read-throughs, and it is the rhythm the product is designed around.

When to use it

Right now. Then weekly: if you own the workspace, it has an active plan, and "Weekly digest emails" is on, the Monday briefing email (7:00 AM in the timezone set on Workspace, or UTC if none is set) is your standing reminder to open the Plan page.

Before you start

You have worked through the earlier lessons in this course, from What Signal & Science is and is not to Why evidence and provenance matter. Pick a task on your plan that is either unfinished or finished but unmeasured.

Do this

  1. 1Open the Marketing Plan page and read the "THIS WEEK'S MOVE" card in full, not just the title.
  2. 2Make a decision: do it, question it ("Ask why this move"), move it up or down the list, skip it with a reason ("Not relevant", "Already doing it", or "I disagree"), or leave it for later. Any of these is a valid first action; a deliberate skip counts.
  3. 3If you act, follow "Go to task," do the work, and mark it complete only when it is truly done. If the task asked you to publish something, note where it went. The result comes later, inside the measurement window.
  4. 4If the task is already complete and its card reads "Task completed. Result still needed.", choose "Add Result", enter the number the card asks for, and click "Save result". The card already names the metric, source, and window, so enter the number only once that window has run. "Log a task outcome" lists the completed tasks waiting for a result. A completed task with no recorded result is completed without measurable proof, not a success.
  5. 5Set the weekly habit: when the Monday digest lands, open the Plan page and repeat the cycle. Read the move, decide, act or skip deliberately, and record results.

What you should see

After step 4, a manual task shows its recorded value on the card, and an integration-backed task shows "Task completed. Measurement pending." until its window closes. Over time, measured results can appear under "Recorded task results" and in "What changed and why".

How to judge it

You have closed one full cycle: one move reviewed, one decision made, and one result recorded or explicitly marked pending. That is the operating loop in miniature.

What it does not mean

  • One action does not validate the strategy. One recorded result is a data point; patterns take weeks.
  • Marking a task done is execution, not proof. Only a measured outcome (Exceeded, Met, Partial, Missed, or Inconclusive) can tell you whether it worked.

Try it in Signal & Science

Open the Marketing Plan page, make a decision on "THIS WEEK'S MOVE", and record the result of one completed task with "Add Result".

Then continue to Set Up a Trustworthy Workspace.

Put it to work

Know what to do next.Know whether it worked.

Signal & Science keeps the evidence, the plan, and the results in one place, so each lesson here becomes a working habit in your own workspace.
