Course 1 · Lesson 1 of 5

What Signal & Science is and is not

Understand what the product does across the operating loop, what it refuses to do, and why the decisions stay with you.

Lesson 1 of 5 in Start Here: How Signal & Science Works

Why this matters

Signal & Science is built to work like a strategist, not a content generator, and it is most useful when you treat it that way. It is a marketing operating system that runs a six-step loop: Diagnose what is observable about your marketing, Prioritize the move that matters most, Plan the work, Execute it, Measure what happened against business numbers, and Learn from the result so next week's recommendation carries more context. If you expect generic articles or a single button that does everything, the product will feel unfamiliar. If you expect a strategist that shows its reasoning and leaves the decisions to you, it is useful from the first session.

When to use it

Your first login, or any time you hand the product to a teammate who asks "so what does this thing do?"

Before you start

You need an account with access to a workspace. Nothing else is required: no integrations, no sources, no content yet.

Do this

  1. 1Open the Marketing Plan page: Open in Signal & Science. This is the hub; everything else feeds it.
  2. 2Read the "THIS WEEK'S MOVE" card (on goal-driven plans it is labeled "YOUR NEXT MOVE"): the task title, why it matters, and what decision it needs from you.
  3. 3Click "Ask why this move". It opens the Marketing Advisor on that task, so you can question the reasoning before you commit.
  4. 4Scan the section nav (This Week, Tasks, What changed, plus Decisions and Results needed when something is waiting on you) and notice what each one answers.
  5. 5Look for what is missing: there is no overall grade, no 0 to 100 score, no readiness badge. The product reports evidence and recommendations. Judgment stays with you.

What you should see

The hero card shows a title, a short description, tags such as "High impact" or "Offer", a "Go to task" link ("Generate from this move" on content tasks), and an "Ask why this move" button. Below it, a strip that begins "Built from your diagnosis" shows the diagnosis date and "Business Intake", naming exactly what the plan was built from. Both items link to the underlying inputs.

How to judge it

You can say in one sentence what the product does (diagnose, prioritize, plan, execute, measure, and learn, in a weekly cycle) and one thing it refuses to do (grade your business with a single score, or make decisions for you).

What it does not mean

  • Signal & Science is not a generic blog or article library. Everything on the Plan page is tied to your business evidence and your plan.
  • It is not a feature catalog to browse. The pages exist to serve the loop: evidence in, decision out.
  • It does not replace your judgment. Tasks drawn from the diagnosis are marked "Recommended from your diagnosis"; you can reorder, skip, add custom work, or rebuild the plan with "Edit plan". Guided, not gated.

Try it in Signal & Science

Open the Marketing Plan page, read the "THIS WEEK'S MOVE" card, and click "Ask why this move" to see the reasoning behind it.
