Lesson 3 of 5 in Start Here: How Signal & Science Works
Why this matters
The Marketing Plan page is the hub of the product. If you learn one page, learn this one: it tells you what to do next, why, what changed since last time, and what decision is waiting on you. This lesson is about reading the page correctly so the weekly loop becomes a routine rather than a chore.
When to use it
Every week, and any time you open the app without a specific errand.
Before you start
You have a workspace with at least a diagnosis run or business intake behind it. If sections are empty, that is honest; Why evidence and provenance matter explains why.
Do this
- 1Open the Marketing Plan page: Open in Signal & Science.
- 2Read the "THIS WEEK'S MOVE" hero card completely ("YOUR NEXT MOVE" on goal-driven plans): what to do, why it matters, and what decision is needed. Use "Go to task" to act on it (content tasks offer "Generate from this move"), or "Ask why this move" to question the reasoning before you commit.
- 3Use the section nav (This Week, Tasks, What changed, plus Decisions and Results needed when they have items) to move through the page with intent instead of scrolling.
- 4Read the strip that begins "Built from your diagnosis", followed by the diagnosis date and "Business Intake". Both items link to the underlying evidence and inputs. If you want a fresh diagnosis, the re-run lives on the Diagnostic page, not in this strip: the "Re-run Diagnosis" button shows its current cost before it runs.
- 5Check for a Decision Inbox. When decisions are waiting, it appears below the hero ("Nothing changes until you decide.") with buttons to accept, snooze, or dismiss each item, and the section nav gains a Decisions item. Past decisions live under Command Center → Decisions tab, in the "DECISION MEMORY" section, which records what you chose and why.
- 6When a completed task needs a result, open the "Log a task outcome" panel ("Choose a completed task to review or record its result."); the Results needed item in the section nav jumps to it. This is where execution becomes a recorded outcome. It is the step most often skipped, and the step the whole loop depends on.
What you should see
The hero card shows a title, a short description snippet, tags such as "High impact" or "Offer", a "Go to task" link, and an "Ask why this move" button. The page carries "Save as PDF" and "Edit plan" buttons, and sections including UPCOMING SEASONAL OPPORTUNITIES, TARGETS, Marketing Memory ("What we've learned about your business that shapes each plan."), "What changed and why" ("What shifted in the numbers since last time, what we think drove it, and the next move it points to."), YOUR PROGRESS SO FAR, "Recorded task results", and "Suggested changes to your plan". Several appear only when they have something to show: seasonal opportunities, Marketing Memory, recorded task results, and suggested changes.
Real empty states you may see: TARGETS shows "No target yet. Set the KPI this plan is driving toward." with a "Set a target" button, and "What changed and why" shows "No change window yet" until there is enough diagnosis history to compare. These are not errors. They are the product telling you what it does not know yet.
How to judge it
You can find the next move, its reason, the decision it needs, and where results get recorded, without asking anyone.
What it does not mean
- The week's move is a recommendation, not an order. You can reorder tasks, skip one with a reason, add your own, or rebuild the plan with "Edit plan".
- The plan does not adapt silently. Suggested changes are applied only after you review and approve them.
Try it in Signal & Science
Open the Marketing Plan page and use the section nav to find the next move, its reasoning, and the "Log a task outcome" panel.
