Lesson 1 of 6 in Set Up a Trustworthy Workspace

Why this matters
Every recommendation, integration, source, and memory in Signal & Science is scoped to the active workspace. Connect a client's GA4 to the wrong workspace and the wrong business gets the credit, the blame, and the plan. Checking the workspace switcher takes two seconds and prevents the most costly mistakes in the product.
When to use it
Before connecting anything, adding anything, or acting on anything, and every time you return to the app after working elsewhere. If you manage clients, check it every time you change clients.
Before you start
You have access to at least one workspace. If you only have one, this lesson takes thirty seconds and still matters.
Do this
- 1Look at the top of the left sidebar: the workspace switcher shows the current workspace name. Read it deliberately; do not assume.
- 2Click the switcher and confirm you see the workspaces you expect. If you manage multiple clients or brands, each gets its own workspace.
- 3Switch to one workspace and open the Workspace page (Open in Signal & Science). Switch to another and open it again. Notice that brand, integrations, and sources change: the data is scoped to the active workspace (client-scoped), not shared across them.
- 4Before doing any onboarding work in this course, confirm the switcher shows the workspace you intend to set up. Every integration you connect and every source you add lands in the active workspace.
What you should see
The switcher always displays the current workspace name. The sidebar looks the same everywhere (Command Center, Signals, Marketing, Research, Competitors, Create, Analytics, Workspace, and Admin for administrators), but the content behind it belongs to the active workspace.
How to judge it
You can name the active workspace and say which client its data belongs to, without clicking anything.
What it does not mean
- Switching workspaces does not merge or share anything. Each client's assets stay in their own workspace.
- The switcher is not a permissions screen. It changes what you are looking at, not what you are allowed to do.
- Access follows the workspace: give each teammate the least privilege they need for their job, and keep client data inside its workspace. Some operations are intentionally service-controlled rather than available to every user. That is a safety measure, not a missing feature. The Admin area in the sidebar is for administrators; if you do not administer the account, you do not need it.
Try it in Signal & Science
Open the workspace switcher, confirm the active workspace, and check on the Workspace page that it belongs to the business you intend to set up.
