Course 9 · Lesson 5 of 7

Approve, dismiss, or defer a decision

Resolve each pending decision deliberately (accept, snooze, or dismiss) and confirm your choice is recorded in decision memory.

Lesson 5 of 7 in Make the System Learn

Why this matters

Recommendations become decisions when they need your call. The Decision Inbox exists for exactly that moment, and only that moment: it appears on the Plan page when decisions are pending ("Nothing changes until you decide."), and if you are sent to it with nothing pending it reads "No decisions need action right now." Treating each decision deliberately (accept, snooze, or dismiss) is how your judgment enters the record instead of evaporating.

When to use it

When a pending decision is showing on the Marketing Plan page. If nothing is pending, there is nothing to do; the absence of the inbox is correct.

Before you start

  • Read the decision and its rationale: what is proposed, why, and what evidence supports it.
  • Know that ignoring a decision is not the same as dismissing it: unmade decisions linger; dismissed ones teach.

Do this

  1. 1Open the Marketing Plan page and find the Decision Inbox (the "Decisions" item in the section nav shows how many are waiting). Each card shows its source, a title, a description, and, where relevant, "Current" and "Suggested" values.
  2. 2Read what is proposed and why. Check the reasoning the way you would check an advisor answer: what is evidence, what is interpretation.
  3. 3Choose: "Accept" (review what it changes first; see Review a proposed plan adaptation), "Snooze" (sets it aside for seven days, then it returns), or "Dismiss" (the inbox does not ask for a reason, so note yours in your weekly review when it matters).
  4. 4Confirm the outcome: open the Command Center → Decisions tab (headed "DECISION MEMORY") and check that your choice appears there. It can take a moment to show.
  5. 5If you accepted a decision that should change the plan, check whether the plan reflects it; if not, carry it in yourself (skip a task, add one, or use "Edit plan"). Accepting records your choice; it does not rewrite the plan behind your back.
  6. 6If the inbox is absent, move on. An empty decision queue is a healthy state, not a missing feature.

What you should see

Pending decisions in the Decision Inbox when they exist ("No decisions need action right now." if you open it with none). After acting, the card leaves the inbox and your choice appears in the Decisions tab's decision memory.

How to judge it

Every pending decision has a resolution (accepted, snoozed, or dismissed, with your reason noted where it matters) and the record shows it. Nothing pending is also nothing ignored.

What it does not mean

Decisions do not auto-apply while you look away. Silence is not consent in this system: an unacted decision stays pending, and a pending decision is not a plan change. Nothing mutates your plan without your review.

Try it in Signal & Science

Open the Marketing Plan and check whether any decisions are pending right now.
