Why is a diagnosis area Unknown?

Understand why a diagnosis area reads Unknown, what the run's evidence basis tells you, and which single verification would help most.

Prerequisites

A completed diagnosis on Marketing → Diagnostic.

Exact steps

  1. 1Open the Diagnostic and find the area marked Unknown in the evidence coverage map (observed areas show a confidence label instead). "What we could not find" summarizes the gaps.
  2. 2Check the run's evidence basis, which applies to the whole report, not to one area: a banner above the report appears when the run is a direct-evidence map rather than a full research read, or could not establish observable evidence. Diagnosis History shows the basis per run ("Grounded read", "Direct scan only"). Thin evidence often traces to a blocked or timed-out scan, a missing integration, or a page that couldn't be read.
  3. 3For the observed areas nearby, read the confidence (high, medium, or low). Low confidence on thin evidence is the system being honest, not broken.
  4. 4Decide the next verification: connect the missing integration (Workspace → Integrations), add a source to Research, or correct social profiles and other found evidence under "Review the full evidence" on the Diagnostic.

Expected result

You can name why the area is Unknown and the single most useful verification.

Troubleshooting

Unknown is not zero, not a failing grade, and not a reason to re-run immediately. Re-running without new inputs produces the same Unknown. If Unknown persists after you've added evidence, that's a real finding: the area genuinely can't be verified from outside.
