Add a research source

Add a file, web page, or pasted text to Research in the right mode, and confirm it reaches Context ready before the advisor or plan relies on it.

Last reviewed against the product September 22, 2026

Prerequisites

The material you want to add (file, URL, or pasted text) and the correct client workspace active in the switcher.

Exact steps

  1. 1Open Research (Open in Signal & Science).
  2. 2Press "Add sources", or drag and drop anywhere on the page.
  3. 3Choose the mode: "My Content" for the business's own material (offer sheets, past campaign notes, sales objections), "Market Sources" for outside research (the "Use as Market Sources" checkbox).
  4. 4Watch the states: uploading → validating → ready. Wait for "Context ready": accepted is not ready until extraction lands.
  5. 5Verify: ask the Marketing Advisor something the source should inform, and check that the "Grounded on" row under the answer includes Research.

Expected result

The source shows "Ready" / "Context ready" in the right mode, and advisor answers can draw on it (shown as Research in the "Grounded on" row).

Troubleshooting

A source stuck below "Context ready" needs time or a retry; don't build a plan on it yet. Image-only or scanned PDFs go through OCR; check the extracted text before relying on it. To remove a source, delete it; the app asks you to confirm and removes its derived context with it. Plan updates a source suggests arrive in the Decision Inbox on the Plan for you to apply or dismiss. They are never silently applied.
