Set up MCP access

Connect Claude, Codex, or an eligible ChatGPT workspace to the Signal & Science workspaces you choose, then verify and manage access.

Before you start

MCP access is available for workspaces on the Business and Agency plans. Sign in to Signal & Science with an account that can access the workspace you want to share. Your AI client must support a remote MCP server and sign-in. This connection is separate from the data integrations inside Signal & Science.

Get the connect address

  1. 1Open Settings → Connections in Signal & Science.
  2. 2Under Connect an app, select Copy connect address. Use the address shown in your account rather than typing one from memory.
  3. 3If Connect an app is absent, check that the workspace has MCP access on its current plan. If the page says the connector is not enabled for this account, a connection cannot be started yet.

Add it to your AI client

Choose the client you use. In each case, paste the connect address copied from Signal & Science and follow the sign-in prompt.

  • Claude: Open Connectors and add a custom connector with the copied address. In a managed Claude organization, an owner may need to add the connector before members can connect it.
  • Claude Code: Run claude mcp add --transport http signal-science URL_FROM_SETTINGS, replacing URL_FROM_SETTINGS with the copied address.
  • Codex: Run codex mcp add signal-science --url URL_FROM_SETTINGS, replacing URL_FROM_SETTINGS with the copied address. Then run codex mcp login signal-science to approve the sign-in.
  • ChatGPT: If your ChatGPT workspace permits custom MCP apps, an authorized admin creates an app using the copied address and OAuth sign-in, scans its tools, and makes it available. Select that app in a chat to use it.

Approve only the access you intend

  1. 1On the Signal & Science Connect an app screen, check the account and the app asking to connect. Approve only a connection you started yourself.
  2. 2Review Workspaces this connection may use. Workspaces are selected initially, so clear any that this app should not see. Choose at least one workspace.
  3. 3If Allow this connection to update work in your plan appears, leave it off for read-only access. Turn it on only if you want the app to update plan work.
  4. 4Select Approve and return to the AI client.

Check and manage the connection

Ask the connected client which Signal & Science workspaces it can access. The result should match the workspaces you approved. Back in Settings → Connections, Connected apps shows each connection, its allowed workspaces, and whether it can read only or update plan work. Select Revoke there whenever you want to end access.

Troubleshooting

  • No connect address or no eligible workspace: Check the workspace's plan and ask your account administrator whether MCP is enabled. Data integrations do not grant MCP access.
  • Sign-in or approval did not finish: Start a fresh connection from the AI client and complete the Signal & Science sign-in and consent screen. Do not reuse an old approval link.
  • The wrong workspaces appear: Revoke the connection in Settings → Connections, then reconnect and review the workspace checkboxes before approving.
  • ChatGPT cannot add the app: Check the ChatGPT workspace's custom MCP app availability and admin permissions. Those settings are controlled in ChatGPT, not Signal & Science.
