Course 3 · Lesson 5 of 7

Correct owned profiles and business facts

Fix wrong business facts in the Business Profile and wrong profiles in the diagnosis evidence, and know what a correction does and does not change.

Lesson 5 of 7 in Run and Read a Diagnosis

Why this matters

Every plan, content draft, and advisor answer builds on what the system believes about the business. If that belief is wrong (an old location, a social profile that belongs to someone else, a competitor that is not one), the error spreads quietly into Prioritize and Plan. Correcting it takes minutes; acting on it for a quarter does not. Corrections also carry forward, so fixing a fact once keeps the next run from repeating the mistake.

When to use it

When the report, the Business Profile, or the evidence cards describe the business incorrectly, or list a profile, listing, or competitor the business does not own or compete with.

Before you start

  • A written list of what is wrong: the field or profile, what it says now, and the correct version.
  • Where each fact lives: business facts are in the Business Profile on Workspace; profiles, listings, and competitors are in the diagnosis evidence on the Diagnostic page.

Do this

  1. 1For business facts, open Workspace and find "Business Profile". Press "Edit", correct only what is wrong among Company, Description, Location, Industry, Target Audience, and Services, then press "Save".
  2. 2For profiles, open the Diagnostic page and press "Review the full evidence". In the "Social Profiles" card, fix a profile URL, add a missing profile, or remove one that is not the business's.
  3. 3Use "Not my business" on a Google Business Profile listing that belongs to someone else, and "Not a competitor" on a rival that does not belong in the set.
  4. 4Treat the website and business type as inputs to the run, not profile fields. If either is wrong, change it on the run form and plan a new run.
  5. 5Saving a Business Profile correction also asks the app to rebuild the analysis that plans and advisor answers draw on, so they stop citing the old fact.
  6. 6If a correction is significant, use Decide whether a reassessment is warranted to judge whether a fresh run is needed.

What you should see

The Business Profile shows the corrected values, and profiles you added are marked "You added" in the Social Profiles card. Corrections are stored alongside the latest run rather than written into the captured scan. A later run carries them forward unless its own scan already agrees, and earlier runs in Diagnosis History keep their own snapshot.

How to judge it

The profile and evidence match reality, and you can say which facts changed, where you changed them, and why. If you cannot say where a fact lives, find that first: editing the wrong surface leaves the error in place. Give the system business context it can trust covers the wider context.

What it does not mean

A correction fixes the facts the system reasons from. It does not rewrite the evidence map: an area that read Unknown in this run stays Unknown until a new run can observe it. It does not change earlier runs, and it is not a way to make the diagnosis agree with what you hoped it would say.

Try it in Signal & Science

Open Workspace and check each field on the Business Profile card against what you know is true.
